So sorry its been a long gap, its just been crazy since Christmas! Illness, appointments, just so many things going on, I feel like I need a holiday!
Today I'm going to review the amazing US mascara that's sweeping the UK right now, the Younique 3D Moodstruck Fiber Lashes (in its full name - from now on I'm just going to call it The Mascara because that is a LONG name to keep typing!).
The first thing I want to say is that this mascara was given to me, I didn't pay for it, and I just wanted to make it clear that ANY item given to me, or any posts that are in any way sponsored, I review and give only my honest opinion. Whether it is given or I have bought it makes no difference to my opinions in the review. I will only give a good review if I genuinely thinks it's good!
So moving back onto The Mascara! I was introduced to Younique and it's famous mascara, along with its other makeup, by a lovely neighbour of mine who had tried it herself, and loved it so much that she joined Younique as a seller! Which is what happened to me incidentally, I loved the products and I've just joined myself! But more of that later! Anyway, I helped out with some business advice and Jen wanted to give me the mascara as a thank you and for me to try myself. She knows I'm a total makeup magpie! Just for your info, you can click these to contact the lovely Jen at her WEBSITE, FACEBOOK, & TWITTER.
Anyway, I've seen some mixed reviews on this mascara and it seems to be a 'Marmite' product - you either love it, or hate it! The percentage that love it is significantly higher though, I would say from what I've seen, that's about 90%. There's a reason for the Marmite comparison though. This mascara system is for a bold and dramatic look, said to rival false lashes - anyone who only ever wears very natural looking mascara and hates false lashes probably won't be suited to this mascara. If you are in this group, its not really sold for the natural look, although you can wear it remarkably understated, but with thick, longer, gorgeous lashes. But the point is, if you for some very strange reason don't like having longer, thicker lashes (why? why would you not want them?!) then it's not the mascara for you. So it depends on your own style really. I prefer a natural lash for daily use, but this mascara has now become my go-to for going out or special occasions.
Its really easy to use. It comes in a lovely little box which looks like a glasses case. It has a tube of Transplanting gel (which is like a black mascara) and a tube of fibres. The fibres are all over a mascara wand. I'm not going to lie, I have a thing about eyes so it made me feel a bit queasy to start with. You just imagine the little fibers attaching excessively to your eyelash and start tickling your eyeballs, but it just doesn't happen!
You start with putting a thin coat of your normal mascara first, although some people swear by ignoring the instructions and going directly onto the lash with the Transplanting gel. Well, I popped a coat of Charlotte Tilburys Mascara on and then added the transplanting gel. This actually already lengthened and thickened my lashes on its own! I applied it how I normally apply mascara, wiggling from side to side in a zigzag. Then you place the fibers directly over the wet gel, which is a lot easier than you think. You just treat it just like a normal mascara wand and apply just the same as the previous coat. The instructions do advise to start from the middle to the tip of the lashes to avoid poking yourself in the eye with the wand full of fibers. The fibers are 100% natural and are made from green tea but eyes are generally not good with any kind of foreign body poked in them! I gave a good coating but was aware not to add too much as it just makes the fibers fall onto your cheek - once the transplanting gel is covered those fibers have nothing left to grab onto. When you've applied the fibers you then seal them in with another GOOD coat of the Transplanting gel. I say a good coat because it needs to coat all the fibers to keep them sealed in, and to stop any fallout from the fibers. The first time I tried this was in a bit of a rush I did have a few fibers on my cheeks at the end of the day. The 2nd time round I put a much thicker layer of the gel on top of the fibers, and really made sure each fiber covered lash was coated and had no fibres fall out all day. I even wore it to bed (I know, its a beauty sin! But sometimes it just has to be done...) You do want to avoid over-using of fibers which is why I always say it takes a few goes until you have your perfect application. After this is done and while still wet I used my Real Techniques Eyelash Comb with a metal comb as opposed to plastic. This was to remove any clumps and also helped them to dry and stay in place. You'll also probably notice that it pulls any wayward fibers all into the one direction, instantly giving the look of longer lashes! The shape stayed all day too, normally other mascaras seem to pull the curl out and find them sticking forwards instead of upwards towards the end of the day.
What I love about Younique too, is that they are using some of the proceeds of every item sold towards building a free shelter in America for women and children who have been abused. They have the plot ready and it will be time to start building very soon! All through the success of mascaras and other makeup! Which is amazing, and to think you're helping someone who has nowhere left to go to start their lives again is such a good feeling.
In conclusion, I LOVE this mascara. I only used the one coat in my picture but can get really long lashes for nights out by repeating the process either 2 or 3 times. I don't think anyone should ever go over 2 coats really because it can look a bit much or start to clump on the third coat, just like most mascaras! And don't be put off by those who say you can only get "spider lashes" as happened on a famous YouTubers post this week. Its all in the application and you can get in touch with the representative you bought through who will talk you through how to get the best results. But I found it really easy to apply and use, and there are plenty of tutorials on YouTube by Younique presenters who show you how quick and easy it actually is.
The cost of The Mascara is £23 plus P&P, which is pretty good considering the Charlotte Tilbury mascara was £22 plus P&P. It ships from America so can take a while OR you can pay your representative your £23 and she will order a bulk order in and usually pay the cost of shipping herself (if they're nice, like me and Jen! 😉)!
Just as an extra note aside, Younique do the most beautiful feeling lip glosses and lip pencils that are creamy enough to be used alone and just don't budge at all, along with lots of other makeup and Skincare. Their products are all made with natural ingredients, and some are vegan and gluten free. All of them feel divine on the skin and feel like they're actually doing good things to your skin! If you are thinking of becoming a representative yourself, all you have to do is buy the starter kit which is £69,99 plus shipping from. It contains the anti-ageing eye serum which retails at £50, the mascara, plus lip pencils, lip gloss and skincare products. It actually makes great financial sense to buy the lovely starter kit - you need only show your friends and family and then they would probably buy the fab products once they see how great they are on you, and you begin earning 20% commission on each item, literally straight away! How could I possibly resist? Well, clearly I couldn't lol. Fantastic for makeup addicts like me!
